What is Foil Printing?

Foil Printing:

Zazzle's innovative technology allows us to create one-off designs with “sleeked” foil, making your designs shine and shimmer! Sleeking is an on-demand foil stamping solution for short-run digital applications, allowing for custom one-off designs. Digital printing has been taken to a whole new level with the sleeking effect.

We offer 3 premium color foil options: Gold, Silver and Rose Gold.

Design Tool Tips:

Creating foil cards will be similar to the current rubber stamp and laser-etched technology. You will need to import your image to the design tool, and then choose a filter and the contrast.

In most cases, if you upload an image to a foil design area and set the filter to etched, etched inverted or dot, the image will appear in the design tool with those halftone filters as expected. However, if you resize that image larger so that it drops below 150 PPI, it will change to a grayscale image in the design tool only and you will get the standard resolution warning that your image may be blurry. (If you resize a small image in a non-foil CYMK design area, the same resolution warning will happen too).

A customer can still purchase a design that shows grayscale, but the design will not be able to be published without correcting the resolution warning, by either resizing the image so that it is not stretched or uploading a higher resolution image.

Please note that there may be some cases where the image you have applied a halftone filter to appears in grayscale in the design tool without the resolution warning appearing, in which case you can publish the design. This will generally only happen in the largest design areas. Also, please note that even though the image may appear as grayscale in the design tool, it will actually be converted to the halftone filter you selected on the final printed product. As long as the grayscale image looks good in the design tool, the halftone filter printed on the final product should look good as well. We strongly recommend, however, that you resize any grayscale images until they convert back to halftone or upload an image of higher resolution.
